Animals Looking Upward

I am a farmhouse
Born of my owner's calloused hands
He didn't have much,
But in his heart was rich as any man.
He was a plowman,
He dug the earth so people had their fill,
By no fault of his own,
Smaller lives were claimed by his skill.
It was not biased,
Took the flowers and the serpents too
And when he saw his wreckage,
From his lips there would come a tune:
In that we do
Similar things
To those in our shadows,
With equal
Indifference, carnage, and cyclicity
In stirring the soil,
In shuffling the soul,
Indifference can only be
Accepted, painfully
For it is simply fair.
I knew a worker,
He saw to the colony's Queen
She was their lifeblood,
For several generations she had been.
Until one day,
The plowman's work brought about his till
And it found his poor Queen,
He carried her for hours
To their hill.
They all decided
To lay her beneath their nursery,
And their lives in shambles,
Animals looking upwards, they did sing:
In that we do
Similar things
To those in our shadows,
With equal
Indifference, carnage, and cyclicity
In stirring the soil,
In shuffling the soul,
Indifference it can only be
Accepted, painfully
For it is simply fair.
The plowman one night,
Returned to my sight
But it wasn't long
Before dark skies
Tower of death in clouds
Could tell the trees to bow,
And I couldn't keep him from this plow.
I begged to let him stay,
As it tore my roof away,
But it wasn't long;
The plowman's gone.
Finally the sun arrived,
And I thought he must have died,
But somewhere near, I heard a cry:
In that we do
Similar things
To those in our shadows,
With equal
Indifference, carnage, and cyclicity
In stirring the soil,
In shuffling the soul,
Indifference can only be
Accepted, painfully
For it is simply fair.

Did he ever live,
In those three and twenty years,
For a thing but movement and location?
If she'd raised her voice,
Not her sparkling shallow eyes,
To indict my movement and location,
Would the battle be lost?
You can watch the tape,
You can try to hit your spots,
But don't do it for anything but the thrill of movement and location,
Or the battle is lost.

It’s hard to love a woman right,
You want to make love, you better learn to fight,
That’s what they told me, that’s what they told me,
That’s what they told me when I was young.
Watch out for long-haired boys and their guitars,
Never open your legs until you’ve closed your heart,
That’s what they told me, that’s what they told me,
That’s what they told me when I was young.
Preconceived notions about love,
If you think you know it,
It just means you don’t.
And I’m so sure that I’m right,
(Please be careful what you say)
That I can’t wait to start this fight,
(Once you say it you can’t take it away)
I should have known you’d never understand,
I guess you’re just another woman (man),
You have no idea who I am,
That’s what they told me, that’s what they told me,
That’s what they told me when I was young.
We all have our own ideas,
This is what love should look like,
This is what love is supposed to be,
But no one just wants to play a role,
If we both have all the answers are the right questions being asked,
You’ve got meet me halfway,
Because I love your face, but darling,
It’s not enough to make me stay,
I love your face, but darling,
It’s not enough to make me stay,
Preconceived notions about love,
If you think you know it,
It just means you don’t.

Lord Why Am I So Dumb?
04:22
|
|||
Lord can you tell me 'bout the ways
The first parallel sun rays
Stream across the Earth
And into my window
Lord can you tell me 'bout the space
Between the constellations
Uniquely from the Earth
That are in my window
Tell me bout the place
That I can only get to
when I close my eyes
And ask for you
would I see your face,
As near as my window?
If you showed me,
Would I even know?
Lord cause I'm dumb
Why am I so dumb?
Searching in the dark
In the depths around me?
Lord can you tell me bout the feel
That I can't help but chase?
Deep into the Earth
With those around me?
Tell me bout the real
the things that make us happy
Different from the fake
That I can see from my window.
Tell me bout the place
That I can only get to
when I close my eyes
And ask for you
would I see your face,
as dear as my window,
and if you told me
would I even know?
Lord cause I'm dumb
Why am I so dumb?
Searching in the dark
In the depths around me?
Lord but I'm free
So don't let me be
Smart without a heart
No Lord I ain't that dumb.
No that ain't very fun.

Your words to me just a whisper
Your face is so unclear
I try to pay attention
Your words just disappear
'Cause it's always raining in my head
Forget all the things I should have said
So I speak to you in riddles
'Cause my words get in my way
I smoke the whole thing to my head
And feel it wash away
'Cause I can't take anymore of this
I want to come apart
And dig myself a little hole
Inside your precious heart
'Cause it's always raining in my head
Forget all the things I should have said
I am nothing more than
A little boy inside
That cries out for attention
Yet I always try to hide
'Cause I talk to you like children
Though I don't know how I feel
But I know I'll do the right thing
If the right thing is revealed
'Cause it's always raining in my head
Forget all the things I should have said

I will dive into my sleep
And I dream of the pretty buildings.
Wonder what she's doing now
And whether she's still living.
Telegraph your point of view
And shepherd me from silence.
Sitting in this fit of rage,
I fall down from my pedestal.
I don't wanna feel this low again.
I ain't gonna steal your flame again.
I don't wanna feel...
'Cause you know it hurts like hell!
So come out of the closet
Let's talk about it
Cause you know it hurts like hell!
That's you in a nutshell
Flowers bloom in harmony
And mixtapes from the 60's.
Fueled by the LSD,
He looks into his future
I don't wanna feel this low again.
I ain't gonna steal your flame again.
I don't wanna feel...
Cause you know it hurts like hell
So come out of the closet
Let's talk about it
Cause you know it hurts like hell
That's you in a nutshell
Morning came and I was dead
Before I left for school
We paint the smiles onto our heads
And keep away from the animals.
And you know it hurts like hell
So when you reach the top
Just throw yourself off
And you know it hurts like hell
And that's you in a nutshell
That's you in a nutshell
And you know it hurts like hell
So come out of the closet
Let's talk about it
And you know it hurts like hell
And that's you in a nutshell
That's you in a nutshell
