An homage and re-conceptualization of a loved song from my youth; the Birmingham-based band Arionis' song "Act 1". I was a huge fan of the band, saw them live many times, and later got to collaborate with a few of the members in Let's Manufacture Static.
lyrics
(Lyrics, by Hudson McCain)
Take a breath
Do not be afraid
No, you will not fight alone
Fight we must,
We can't let the empire destroy our hope in love
My sight, I see
With my eyes all I see is deception
Although it seems hopeless
And now my breath
I can breathe but only in fractions of the air you stole from me
Must we die so young?
Do you believe in sacrifice?
Do you believe in what we're dying for?
(Steady your hands, ready your rifles, men
Never look back, we are never looking back)
So we burn the lights of surrounding cities
To illuminate the path that we must travel
We will fight until their temples fall to pieces
And cast away their crowns made of stone
My only passion tonight is to take this to the grave.
The 19 year long war has finally ended,
The Rebellion succeeded.
But now it would seem that we are
Without loss or pain but it's strange
The days have grown so longer
And the nights more unbearable than ever
We have lost our purpose
We are at a stand-still,
Do we turn this page or slowly wither away?
