about

This track started with the irreverent splicing of one of Olivier Messiaen's piano solos in his work Oiseaux Exotiques for small orchestra. I blasphemously arranged the bits of piano together and into a pop-like structure, then added lyrics, melody, bass, and a drum beat that I had programmed years before. The lyrics are about a blonde woman I had the pleasure of serving while a waiter at Highlands Bar and Grill who ordered her entree of veal to be cooked rare. I emphasize the lilt, clicks, sibilance, timbre, and general aural delicacies with which she spoke, to me as music sung.

Almost every part of this song is a patchwork of more or less directly pirated elements from my musical influences. (All works are, but this one is more explicit.) The verse isn't directly modeled after any one song but reminds me of (and I'd like it to pay homage to) Savage Garden's verse in "I Want You". The "jacuzzi" melody is lifted from Radiohead's bridge on "Little by Little" from The King of Limbs. The chorus' "Like the sea's foam", and "You're so winsome" is a melody lifted from Michael Jackson's "Earth Song", which gets incredibly emotional at that point.

Spirant is an adjective that describes a consonant sound made by an exhale passed through tightened lips or teeth, such as "ph" or "ss". It almost has the word "spirit" in it too.

lyrics

Golden cords
Line suggestion
Speak directions
To the feel of curling toes
Twined beneath sheet
She leans forward
Rested elbow she's well over
The soft pillowed cloth
Her doe-eyes, her dove-like flutter
Be my jacuzzi, be my jacuzzi
Like the sea's foam
Like morning-after rain
Like commands worth taking
Whispin' over tan, covered shoulder bare
Mouthful of innocence
Give me more
You're at perfection
Begat inspection
Glad detection of golden cords
Twined beneath sheet,
She goes under cover
You're so winsome that I'll
Excuse the venom somehow
Mouthful of innocence
Clicks wash round sibilance.
Be my jacuzzi, be my jacuzzi.
